What is life coaching (also known as personal coaching)?
Structured-ish conversations with a certified coach (Jesse!) to help you find new ways to look at your challenge, yourself, and the larger context. (i.e., what opportunity is in that challenge you're procrastinating on, who are you choosing to be in this strained relationship, how can you show up the way you want to show up for your husband, and your children?)
Who is it for?
Anyone who's in the process of creating a new life for themselves, struggling to make a difficult decision (or decisions) to move forward, or anyone who feels like they're stuck between a rock and a hard place. Ultimately it's for anyone who's ready to become a better version of themselves and knows that, just like in a gym, a coach can help you find the guidance you need to get to who you want to be.
Who is coaching NOT for?
Individuals with traumas, challenges, or disorders that need a different kind of support because I'm not a therapist nor trained medical associate of any kind.
How does it work?
You’ll have recurring one-on-one conversations to explore your ambitions, evoke your transformation, and manage your doubts with a coach. These conversations are often broad, and very often fun, but ultimately the coach's style is there to serve the client's needs.
How much do you charge?
I'm currently offering reduced pricing as I complete my coaching accreditation requirement hours. My most updated fees are always as listed on the Services page.
How many sessions will I need?
During the Discovery session (the very first session), we'll decide how many coaching sessions we want to aim for together. The coaching packages are 4 sessions across 3 months, 8 sessions across 6 months, or 12 sessions across 9 months. Sessions should occur on a 3-week basis.
What is the Discovery session?
A 75-minute session where you and I sit down together to get to know each other, discuss what it is you'd like to work on during our time together, and chart a path forward with the number of sessions we want to start with. It's the most administrative session we'll ever have together, and the first time we start creating an intentional space for our coaching. This is where we discover and decide if we’ll work well together, and if we can’t it’s always much better to know upfront and we can happily part ways.
Where do these sessions take place?
Primarily over Zoom, however I am open to in-person sessions. Sessions take place in a private setting which allow both the client and coach to speak authentically to one another without concern of anything discussed being shared with any other parties. This is a 100% private coaching space created for the client.
Do you ever share anything your clients discuss with you?
NOPE! That is a huge no in coaching. As a coach I will never share anything I've discussed with any client because the biggest strength we have in these spaces is our discretion and privacy on behalf of our clients.
How did you get into coaching?
I became interested in the field after one of my dear friends from my MBA program recommended coaching to me in 2023 while I was teaching at Dallas Community College. As I learned about Co-Active coaching, I fell in love with everything it represents because it's a very natural extension of who I am. I'm obsessed with personal growth, and I have a deep well of empathy for others.
Why did you choose to become a coach?
I'm passionate about ensuring others receive the opportunity to be who and how they want to be, regardless of where their starting point is. I wasn't born into a lot of resources but my life has brought me across amazing therapists, mentors, and ultimately coaches. So many brilliant people have done so much for me, and I want to pass that on by opening doors for others.
What makes you different from other coaches?
First off, my identity: Mexican American, first generation, raised by immigrants, bachelor’s degree graduate from UT Austin in advertising, and MBA from UCLA Anderson. Second, beneath the surface, it's all the other cool things that make me who I am: tried and tested empathy, faith that we all have the power to make tomorrow a little better, and belief that we can always become a better version of ourselves. You're also welcome to ask me anything.
Do you specialize within any client niche?
I currently do not. Reasons being:
My goal is to reach 100 clients before specialization (if I do at all).
I enjoy variety from my clients, and 3) even without explicitly specializing, the majority of my clients do come to me because they see some reflection of themselves in me (i.e., work in corporate career, serve as coach themself, identify as a minority, first-generation, have a marketing background, was raised by immigrants, lives in their faith, etc.)
What tools do you use as a coach?
The #1 tool is very deep listening briefly followed by #2 curiosity that enables connection. After that, it's based on the client's needs, but might include potentially identifying and disempowering negative internal voices, exploring possibilities based on their fulfillment, or another tool to help the client evoke transformation.
What modalities were you taught to use?
The Co-Active Institute, where I received my certification, trains coaches to use a variety of tools for different coachees depending on where they are and where they need to go. Modalities include tactics such as somatic awareness, visioning, mining for a coachee's values and purpose, and guiding clients to find and choose their empowered perspectives to apply in their lives.
How do I know if you're a good coach for me?
I'm a good coach for you if
You're not an a**hole
You value my time and yours
You're not coming to me to solve your problems but to have me work with you on them, and
You enjoy a good laugh.
What's the difference between coaching and therapy?
The 2 main differences between therapy and life coaching are:
Therapy primarily deals with reconciling past trauma into the present version of yourself while coaching selects a specific challenge (or challenges) in the present and works on them to open doors in the near future, and
Therapy on any particular client subject may take anywhere from one session to years while coaching is significantly more prescriptive by deciding in the very first session how long this working relationship will last.
Do you have any reviews?
Just a couple so far. You can find them on my Services page or on my LinkedIn.
What challenges have you encountered as a coach?
Occasionally new clients feel concerned there isn't a breakthrough immediately after starting. However, these breakthroughs take time. Sometimes impact occurs very quickly, but most of the time it's the process that happens over time (and primarily outside of the coaching sessions) that evokes broader transformation. Trust the process.
What are your rules or guidelines to have a coaching session with you?
I have five guidelines for each coaching session I lead with my clients:
What's said here, stays here.
There are no wrongs in this space.
Lean into the discomfort.
Trust the process.
Have fun!
